Introduction of new ACEA oil sequences

18.06.2021 - 12:00

When was the introduction of the new 2021 version?

Since 01.05.2021 engine oil manufacturers can label products according to the new ACEA sequences. There is a transitional period of two years for engine oils according to ACEA 2016. From 01.05.2023, only the new 2021 version will be valid.

What has changed?

  • For the first time, the categories for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (Ax/Bx and Cx) have been revised independently from those for heavy commercial vehicles (Ex). This allows changes in the market and new hardware requirements to be reflected more quickly and directly in the sequences.
  • With the introduction of ACEA 2021, several new tests have also been added: new wear tests (Sequence IVB and Sequence X), a fuel economy test (JASO FE M366), a turbocharger test (CEC L-114-19) and an LSPI test (Sequence IX).
  • The A3/B3 and C1 categories will not be continued so that the requirements of the current vehicle fleet can be focused even more.
  • Introduction of two new categories to meet the growing demands, especially with regard to Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI), wear protection and turbocharger cleanliness:

ACEA A7/B7 - High-SAPS engine oil for vehicles without particle filter
ACEA C6 - Low-SAPS engine oil for vehicles with particle filter

And at FUCHS?

FUCHS will continue to qualify the products according to the new ACEA 2021 requirements, so that we can offer correctly labeled and qualified lubricants to our customers. The engine oil TITAN GT1 FLEX 5 SAE 0W-20 is already qualified according to the new requirements of ACEA C5 and ACEA C6.
